In general, what do you hope to get out of this grant program?
I hope to acquire a broader understanding of American history. As a Literature teacher a sense of fulfillment is achieved every time students start asking questions, especially on topics that touch base on culture.
This grant program is my avenue to be more familiar on how history shaped the nation’s identity.
What are you most proud of in your professional life so far?
The turning point of my professional life is when I came to the US armed with my authentic experiences as an international teacher. I am grateful for the chance of being involved with different cultures. Being able to share and exchange points of view at different angles excites me. When I go home to my country, I will find ways to express how this experience improved my whole character and being.
What are your greatest strengths and your biggest weaknesses as an educator?
As an educator, I always carry a badge of honor because I’m proud of what I do. The ability to create networks inside and outside the school is one of my greatest strengths. Building a community is difficult for a few but it is easy when people have a common goal. However, there are adversaries because no matter what state of mind you are in, you always have to show up. There are time that frustration clouds my judgement. The only thing that I go back to is that everyone is a work in progress.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy listening to music. In fact, I enjoy singing through videoke with my friends. Filipinos love singing at any moment of our lives. Going to the beach is also fun. Being raised in a tropical country makes me always look forward to summer. Reading is also part of mt routine. Writing makes me zoom in on creative juices.
