In general, what do you hope to get out of this grant program?

I really hope to collaborate with teachers. I love social studies and I have the potential to work with every elementary teacher in the district, so I hope to work with teachers and create things (digital resources) that many teachers can use. I hope to have conversations about history.

What are you most proud of in your professional life so far?

I used to be afraid of instructional technology and 1:1 devices in classrooms, and now I’m an instructional technology coach. I’m proud of myself for growing, pushing myself to try new things and talking to people.

What are your greatest strengths and your biggest weaknesses as an educator?

Strengths: content knowledge, enthusiasm for each thing; relatability when presenting; ability and willingness to adapt/be flexible.

Weaknesses: Historically, I didn’t want to fuss at kids, so classroom management (I’d gotten better at that the year Covid hit, but I’ve been doing different things since then).

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Read (primarily “cozy” mysteries like Agatha Christie and Louise Penny)
Theatre (mostly direct children’s theatre, but also perform in shows)
Hang out with my daughter (she’s 10, so I’ll do most things she wants to do)
Listen to Christian music + audiobooks (long commute to work)
Travel *Everywhere, but I prefer traveling by car so I have freedom- National Parks, cruises, Disney parks

America: A Story That Must Not Be Forgotten is funded by a grant from the United States Department of Education.
